The Journey.

An initiatory arc of clearing, restoration, visioning and renewal.

Transformative Acupuncture offers a structured journey through progressively deeper patterns of clearing, restoration, expansion, refinement, vision and renewal.

The sequence is deliberate. We do not begin by trying to access expanded states of consciousness while old patterns are still consuming our energy. That way many problems lie. Instead we begin much more simply; by focussing on cleaning, clearing and releasing what is obstructing us. This creates the right space and stability before for the more powerful work that follows.

We then work with what is trying to return, develop or find fuller expression. We work with chakras and the extra meridians to allow our true shape to begin to reappear. Only after this groundwork do we approach the more visionary stages of the process (if desired).

Taken as a whole, the sequence forms what is essentially an initiatory arc. It begins and ends with the same fundamental intention:

Let us see more clearly.

The threshold: clarity.

Generally, the first treatment we start with is the Clarity Pattern from Esoteric Acupuncture.

This is a gentle, harmonising introduction to both acupuncture and the energies involved in Transformative Acupuncture. It allows you to experience a complete pattern without immediately entering one of the deeper phases.

It also marks the threshold of the journey.

We begin by paying attention to where you are now: what has brought you here, what is taking your energy, what is trying to change and what you need to understand more clearly. It gently opens our selves to seeing our next steps and the journey ahead.

There is no requirement upon you other than to simply turn up and relax.

From this point, the main journey begins.

Clearing.

We do not become our true selves by continually adding more. We do so primarily by removing the obstructions that obscure what is already there.

In contrast to many paths, we do not begin by chasing something additional.

You already have much of what you need so we begin by giving your system an opportunity to release and put down all those things which are taking your energy but you don’t actually need any more. A spring clean for your inner self and the creation of a more balanced foundation for deeper work to rest on.

We all carry patterns, habits, attachments and unfinished experiences that consume our attention, vitality and intention. Some are obvious; we recognise them and can be frustrated by our inability to change them. Others have become so familiar that we have ceased to question them. They have become part of our internal landscape and perhaps even our identity.

Do you ever find yourself thinking:
• Why do I keep doing this?
• Why can’t I let go of this thought, habit or person?
• Why do I keep sabotaging myself?
• Why do I understand the pattern but still cannot change it?
• Why do I meditate but continue to feel blocked?
• Why has my practice slowed or stopped developing?
These experiences are common to us all. We may have considerable self-awareness and understand exactly what is happening, yet still find ourselves caught within the same reactions.

They can be very difficult to shift on our own, especially if all we have is our individual practice. Athletes have coaches, therapists and entire support teams around their training. Inner development also benefits from skilled and appropriate support. Transformative Acupuncture provides a coherent structure to support us as we become more of who we are.

You can bring something specific to the clearing sessions or simply see what arises. Either approach is valid.

An unburdening. An unravelling. A disentangling.

The energy previously held within these patterns becomes available as we release them. We gain more space around familiar triggers, more freedom in how we respond and a firmer foundation for everything that follows. We become increasingly able to respond rather than react, which indicates a greater degree of freedom that we have gained.

The clearing phase takes place over an initial series of 8 sessions and can be repeated whenever necessary. It can also be undertaken as a complete and powerful piece of work in itself. There is no requirement to continue into the later stages.

Once sufficient space has been created, the emphasis changes.

We begin to work with chakra patterns and the lesser-used Extra Meridians. Within Transformative Acupuncture, these two systems have different but complementary roles.

The chakra patterns are used to explore subtler dimensions of awareness and perception. They give access to expanded states of consciousness, spiritual energy and different forms of inner and psychic perception.

The Extra Meridians help bring the work back into relationship with the body, everyday life and the deeper organising intention of the individual—what might be called our original blueprint.

The chakra patterns open and expand. The Extra Meridians restore, ground and embody.

Expansion without grounding can remain abstract. Grounding without expansion can leave us confined within what we already know. Working with both allows the more rarefied aspects of spiritual experience to move beyond the treatment room and become incorporated into our physical and psychological selves. More of our deepest intention can then find expression through the way we live.

This stage is concerned with reconnecting with what may have become obscured, muted or diverted. Not with creating a new self, but with allowing something more original to find expression.

The two forms of treatment are interspersed throughout this phase. If trauma or an established pattern requires sustained attention, we may remain primarily with the Extra Meridians for a period of weeks before progressing further.

The journey serves the needs of the person.

Refinement.

Later in the journey, we work with the two Dragon Patterns.

These ancient acupuncture patterns are used to release remaining fears, holds and disturbances within the system. These patterns can also work on inherited or ancestral patterns, if this feels relevant for you. We often carry things that are not necessarily 'ours'. An inherent sensitivity to something, a pattern or vulnerability that 'runs in the family'. Such behaviours can find their release, or the beginning of their release, in this stage.

The use of the Dragon patterns at this latter phase in the sequence is deliberate.

By this stage, clearing has created space. The Extra Meridians have strengthened and restored your deeper system. The chakra patterns have expanded awareness and opened new levels of perception.

We therefore meet what remains from a very different place than where we began: with more freedom, perspective and inner resource.

Refinement is a further process of clarification, separating what belongs to us from what no longer does, and releasing what continues to restrict the expression of oyur true intention.

Nothing requires us to rush onwards. If something deeper has emerged, we remain with it until the work is complete enough for the next stage to begin.

Vision.

When the previous work has created sufficient space, stability and inner resource, the journey turns towards vision.

A more advanced acupuncture pattern is used to open a visionary state: an inner space in which to ask what we need to know and allow the energies, intelligences or spiritual sources with which we work to answer.

The experience is akin to a pathworking: an inner journey entered through the energetic pattern rather than through guided visualisation alone.

You may bring a question:
• What do I need to understand?
• What is being asked of me?
• What is the next step upon my path?
The answer may come through imagery, direct knowing, energetic movement, spiritual encounter or a recognition that continues to unfold after the treatment. Each person receives according to their own path, inner language and capacity.

The pattern can be repeated whenever deeper vision is needed.

Renewal and the return to clarity.

The journey concludes by returning to the Clarity Pattern with which it began.

We return to the same pattern, but not as the same person.

What has been cleared, restored, opened, refined and seen is now brought together. The final treatment grounds the work, gathers its different strands and draws them towards clarity about what comes next.

Initiation is not complete when we have an experience. It becomes complete when what we have encountered begins to shape the way we live.

The purpose of renewal is therefore not to leave ordinary life behind. It is to return to it with more of ourselves present.

A journey without a fixed timetable.

The sequence has a coherent structure, but it is not a rigid programme.

Each stage can be repeated. We may pause within one phase, return to an earlier pattern or remain with a specific meridian, chakra or issue for deeper work.

There is no obligation to complete every stage. Nor are the later phases “better” than those that precede them. Sometimes clearing is the most important transformation we can do. Sometimes restoration requires time. Sometimes integration must take place before any further opening is useful. The complete journey can unfold over whatever period is right for you.

Personal transformation requires time to become grounded. Changes must find their way into the body, our spiritual practice, our relationships, the choices we make and the life we create around ourselves.

The structure remains consistent. The journey within it is entirely your own.

Taking the first step.

You do not need to decide in advance whether you want to undertake the complete journey.

We begin with an informal conversation and, if it feels right, an introductory Clarity treatment. From there, we move into the clearing phase and allow the next steps to emerge through the work itself.
